CHIHUA

The Chihuahua is a small dog with a huge personality. As a national symbol of Mexico, these alert and playful “purse dogs” are among the oldest breeds in the Americas, with a lineage tracing back to ancient pre-Columbian kingdoms. The Chihuahua is a balanced and graceful dog, with a terrier-like demeanor, weighing no more than 6 pounds. The breed’s hallmark is its rounded “apple” head. Their upright ears and bright, full eyes are extremely expressive. Coats come in a variety of colors and patterns and can be long or short. The varieties are identical except for the coat. Chihuahuas possess loyalty, charm, and a big-dog attitude. Even small dogs need training, and without it, this clever rascal will rule your house like a little Napoleon. Compact and confident, Chihuahuas are ideal city pets. They are too small to roughhouse with children and require special care in cold climates, but Chihuahuas are adaptable as long as they get plenty of quality time in their favorite lap.
